New Sonoma County foreclosure filings drop 26 percent

Sonoma County homeowners last summer entered the foreclosure process in the smallest numbers in nearly nine years. Lenders recorded 147 notices of default in the county in the third quarter, according to Irvine-based CoreLogic DataQuick. The notices, the first step in the official foreclosure process, were at their lowest number since 143 such documents were filed in the fourth quarter of 2005. Sonoma County foreclosures remain at pre-crash levels

Foreclosure activity in Sonoma County remains at levels last seen in the years before the housing bubble burst. County homeowners lost 71 residential properties in the first quarter of 2014, according to real estate information service DataQuick. That was a decrease of 53.9 percent from a year earlier and represented the lowest number for the first quarter since 2006.
