Potential homebuyers can learn about the path to homeownership Nov. 17 at a free workshop in Santa Rosa.
The workshop, sponsored by two non-profits, will discuss the benefits of obtaining a real estate agent and getting “prequalified” by a lender for a specific loan amount. Other covered topics will include credit scores, down payments and tax benefits.
“Today we’re just trying to get the word out to people that interest rates are low and home prices are low,” said Terry Ward, vice president of the non-profit Northbay Family Homes in Novato.
He acknowledged that the buying opportunity came about partly because five years too many people purchased homes they couldn’t truly afford. His group, dedicated to helping people become homeowners, also provides counseling to borrowers who are trying to save their homes from foreclosure.
The workshop, given together with Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County, will be held at 6 p.m. at 1300 North Dutton Ave. in Santa Rosa.
Reservations aren’t required but can be done by contacting terry@nfh.org. For more information, call 415-382-2545.
