Today we are hunting for Sonoma County properties to rent for $2000 per month. Not the easiest price point, but there are some spots that have potential if you don’t mind “cozy.” Renting can be a challenge – we even know of a fabulous Sonoma duplex on a desirable street that keeps turning over tenants because the neighbors are so mean – but hopefully there are a few happy places for renters to land below.
Sonoma
This tiny 500 square-foot cottage in Sonoma is on the tony 2nd Street East and is available for $1800 per month. As one would probably guess, it has a single bedroom and one bath, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm and new fixtures. The cottage has hardwood floors, a new kitchen with a gas stove and a cute yard. $1800 is steep for a home this size, but Sonoma prices are pretty wild, especially for a place so close to the Plaza. (Hey, most New Yorkers would consider this a palace.) It is reminiscent of a Tumbleweed Tiny House, which is a coincidence because the company’s headquarters are just a few blocks away. As a pleasant surprise, there are also currently sub-$2000 per month rentals available in Glen Ellen and Boyes Hot Springs at the moment.

Petaluma
1780 Northstar Drive is a two-bedroom, two-bath in east Petaluma not far from the JC. At 920 square feet, it is almost twice the size of the Sonoma house and has perks such as a community pool and included gardener. Pets are also negotiable, which is a fairly rare perk these days. The home is newly repainted, has new carpeting and blinds and a two-car garage. It is also a quick hop to the wonderful G & G Market and one of our favorite playgrounds, Leghorns Park.

Rohnert Park
7755 Camino Colegio is an 874 square-foot two bedroom, two bath condo renting for $1800 a month. It is very close to Sonoma State University and is pretty open and bright with a floorplan in which the kitchen looks out onto the living room and patio. The hickory wood laminate floors and included washer and dryer are a bonus. Like Petaluma, there is access to a community pool and pets are negotiable. It is easy to imagine happily cooking at this gas stove as we chat to friends and family in the living room,.

Guerneville
14093 Sosna Way is a two-bedroom, two-bath woodsy Russian River condominium with a great forest view and a wood-burning stove. We are not usually fans of pot-bellied stoves, but this one really works in this setting. At 1,239 square feet, this is one of the largest properties on our list and has special features such as a third-level loft with a skylight and glass built-in cabinets that open up what would be a tight-fitting kitchen to a bright dining area. As a part of the Dubrava Condos, there as a double carport, a gated entrance and access to a dock on the river that is open during the high season.

We can’t tell you how friendly the neighbors are, but some of these properties could be a comfy place to settle down. Which place seems like the best bargain? Sound off in the comments.
