A few winters ago, my sweetie and I decided to skip the holiday hulabaloo, and head out on the road. Our first stop was a Yosemite lodge, where we cuddled up by the fire after a day of hiking. Since, then I have been obsessed with the lodge aesthetic.

The quintessential lodge has a plenty of wood paneling, a fireplace or wood-burning stove, plenty of natural stonework, a deck, walls of window and natural light. Examples of this design style are plentiful in  Sonoma County, especially where the redwoods meet the river.

But you don’t have to be in west county to see prime examples of this rustic style.
