A new report released by the website apartment list.com, revealed that Sonoma County apartment rents have gone up 1.8 percent over last year, faster than state and national averages.

This is the second consecutive month that the area has seen rent increases after a decline in September.  California average rents went up 1.4 percent over last year and national rents increased by 1.3 percent.

The current average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Sonoma County is $1,520 and $1,980 for a two-bedroom. Most renters in major cities across the United States pay less than that. Two-bedrooms in Detroit go for $890/month and $1,268 in Chicago. The national median rent is also lower. Renters across the United States pay around $1,180 for a two-bedroom, eight-hundred dollars more than Sonoma County’s average.

Our Bay Area neighbors; San Jose and Oakland saw greater increases with rents going up 3.2 percent and 2.8 percent respectively. Although, San Francisco’s median rent only increased 1.8 percent, the city continues to be the most expensive place to live in California with a median two-bedroom rent of $3,100.
