Sales of million dollar homes don’t seem to be slowing down any time soon in Sonoma County. According to realtor.com’s 2018 Luxury Home Index, Sonoma County is the 17th fastest-growing luxury market in the country with a 9.9% increase in sales year over year.

With, approximately 1,519 homes lost in Santa Rosa’s Fountaingrove neighborhood, sales in the million-plus segment may have seen an uptick as residents of the elite community sought to replace homes destroyed or damaged by the fires.

Northern California in general registers high on the list with seven of the top 20 fastest-growing luxury markets in the country. Bay Area markets of Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Mateo, San Luis Obispo, Sacaramento and Marin all witnessed gains of greater than 9% in the luxury sector. A trend that is in harsh contrast to a deceleration in sales of mid-market homes in recent months.

The realtor.com Luxury Home Index analyzes 91 luxury counties, looking at yearly movement in the entry-level luxury price boundary, defined as the top 5 percent of all residential home sales in a given market in May 2018. For Sonoma County that luxury boundary is $1,417,000.
