Nestled between the forest and the sea, 22211 Pacific View Drive is a contemporary glass house constructed for reflection, relaxation and inspiration.

This mostly transparent high-tech home fits in with a long history of modernist abodes built to blend in with their natural surrounding, such as Richard Clements’ iconic 1964 glass house, sold in Timber Cove for $3.3 million last year.

More extreme examples in transparency can be found throughout the United States and abroad. German-born Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House was constructed in Plano, Illinois in 1951. Philip Johnson’s Glass House in  New Canaan, Connecticut was built around 1948. Across the sea, Le Corbusier’s Dom-Ino design was conceptualized in 1914, but there were earlier examples, too.

Although not completely glass, the one-bedroom residence at 22211 Pacific View Drive in Jenner utilizes windows on two exterior walls to both frame and unite the home with the coastal setting. Built in 2010, the artful abode features some of the most coveted modern conveniences. The gourmet kitchen has Wolf and Miele appliances, the master suite has a steam shower and sauna. Outside of the home there is a fire pit, hot tub, wood-fired pizza oven and a detached glass studio.

Properties like these are truly inspirational, as Mies put it best, they bring “nature, houses and the human being to a higher unity.”
