809 Rancho Way, Petaluma - $619,000
3 beds, 2 baths, 1,456 square feet. Year built: 1971.
Exterior. (Photo courtesy of Sterling California Properties)
This traditional single story house has been well maintained, with quite a few upgrades to keep it up to date. I'm a fan of single story homes, especially when a family has small children. (toddlers and stairs can be a terrifying combination.) Click to check out the entryway...

There's a lot more going on in this home than the entryway, certainly, but this is where first impressions happen when guests walk in, so it's worth a look. The interior looks nicely updated, and the floors are in great shape. It bodes well for the rest of the home. Scroll to see the next property...

22 Halsey Ave, Petaluma - $599,000
3 beds, 1 baths, 1,403 square feet. Year built: 1949.
Exterior. (Photo courtesy of Pacific Union Real Estate)
This 1949 home is close to McNear Park, so it's also a good choice for families with children, or just people who enjoy spending time outside. In addition, it's on a hill, so the views of the mountains from the backyard are really great. However, unlike the first house on the list, this home hasn't been updated. Click to see what I mean...

If you're into the retro look, this is the house for you. If you're not, this is going to be a lot of money (throughout the whole house) to get it looking modern. Scroll for the next house...

14 Wallace Ct, Petaluma - $699,900
2 beds, 2 baths, 1,395 square feet. Year built: 1941.
Exterior. (Photo courtesy of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage - Petaluma)
Speaking of retro - this house is a gem for any homebuyer looking for a well restored vintage home. While the plaster on many late 30s, early 40s, homes are prone to cracking and will have big chunks missing, someone has taken exceptional care of this facade. Click to head inside...

There are a lot of images in this listing that show how the interior has been kept period-specific, but I can't get enough of the curved ceiling and doorways. After having had to replace a regular flat ceiling in a very old house, I'm impressed with how well maintained this interior is. Scroll to change decades...

518 Acadia Dr, Petaluma - $620,000
3 beds, 2 baths, 1,456 square feet. Year built: 1987.
Exterior. (Photo courtesy of Coldwell Banker)
Another traditional single story home. You can tell by the low-maintenance landscaping that this 1987 house has seen a couple of droughts. This house has been well maintained, but keeps the 1980s feeling. Click through to see what I mean...

There's a sunken living room with a vaulted ceiling and wood burning fireplace, which are positives, but check out that linoleum and original kitchen cabinets. If it doesn't bother you, this may be a good find - it is clean. But we have more to see; click to view the next property...

1425 Weaverly Dr, Petaluma - $550,000
3 beds, 2 baths, 1,358 square feet. Year built: 1955.
Exterior. (Photo courtesy of Keller Williams Realty)
I have a soft spot for tract homes from the 1950s, and this unassuming house is no exception. It straddles that fine line between vintage and retro, but retro sounds more stylish, so I'm going for it. If you want to see exactly how retro this house is, scroll to look at the kitchen...

The tile is original, and it looks like the hardware on the cabinets is, too. If you still enjoy a good sock hop or can't wait for Peggy Sue's car show each summer, this house is a find. Click through to jump ahead a couple of decades...

1202 San Rafael Dr, Petaluma - $580,000
3 beds, 2 baths, 1,628 square feet. Year built: 1973.
Exterior. (Photo courtesy of AG&Company Real Estate)
Talk about a drought resistant front yard. It's not only drought resistant, it's extremely low maintenance (that is, if they put weed barrier under the rocks.) They've kept this home well maintained, and though updated, they didn't shake the 70s vibe. Scroll to see what I mean...

Kitchen. (Photo courtesy of AG&Company Real Estate)
They have updated the kitchen with a granite counter top, new tile for the backsplash, and new appliances, but the pendant lamps and color scheme are paying homage to the 1973 year this house was built. No complaints here - it's really well done. Scroll for the next home...

925 5th St, Petaluma - $699,000
3 beds, 2 baths, 1,503 square feet. Year built: 1951.
Exterior. (Photo courtesy of RE/MAX PROS)
I'm seeing a common thread running through a lot of these houses - they're mostly single story. This is neither good nor bad, just something to keep in mind when looking for homes in Petaluma - you may have to search a bit more for a two story. Click to see what shows this homes age...

Retro 1950s isn't all Mad Men and martinis...wood veneer was a thing, and it's a main thing in this home. Again, not good or bad, just something to keep in mind when putting together a budget to update a house. Scroll to see the next property on this list...

Now THIS is a unique find, and anyone who's into Petaluma's agricultural history will really enjoy this house. It's a mini-ranch that includes a 2 car garage. 3 Corrals, 4 stall barn, round pen & classic old barn on a 1 acre lot. Click to see more...

We moved back to see a bit more of what this mini-ranch has in store for the home buyer; you can see the garage and the old barn to the side - I'm not sure if that small building to the left is the 4 stall barn (it looks too small) or storage shed - but this is just the beginning. I looked at the interior of the stalls and one of the corrals, the next owner has their work cut out for them. Not sure if the farm life is for you? Scroll to see the last property on this list...

Here's (finally) another two story home. This house may have more levels to move into, but it hasn't lost it's 1970s flair. Click through to see what I mean...

A sunken living room, wet bar, and angled wood slat wall show that this was likely the neighborhood party house in its time.
