Sleek, stylish and futuristic – prefabricated homes have come a long way since the Sears catalog days when mail order kits were delivered to your doorstep. These historic Arts and Crafts bungalows are dotted throughout Sonoma County, but most were built with nary a concern for modern notions like energy efficiency or off-gassing materials. We wrote about one just last year, when a stylish Breeze model hit the market in Healdsburg.

Modern green prefabs like those built by Vallejo’s Blu Homes are constructed with environmentally friendly materials like no-VOC paints, dual-pane windows and FSC certified woods. But on top of all that they are just cool to look at. The hipster fabulous abode at 290 Long Acres Place is no exception.

The ultramodern Glidehouse features sliding glass doors, walls of windows and retractable cedar panels for both shade and privacy. It has three bedrooms each with patio access and a light filled great room. The party continues outdoors to a large deck that is probably as big as the entire interior living space. It is quintessentially Californian and thoroughly Sonoma County abutting a habitat preserve for Wine Country sunsets.
